Mitchell Hall is a catered hall of residence for full-time students who would like a single room and is only a short walk away from all lecture and laboratory facilities.

The reception is open each day between 07.00 and 23.00. Facilities include a bar lounge which is open in the evenings.

  • Car parking is available close to the main building.
  • No smoking is permitted within Mitchell Hall.

Our accommodation is managed in accordance with Universities UK Code of Practice for University Managed Accommodation.

Fees (2024-25 academic session)

  • Mitchell Hall, standard catered room (183 rooms in total): £25.38 per day (includes daily meal allowance)
  • Mitchell Hall, en suite catered room (3 rooms in total): £33 per day (includes daily meal allowance)

These rates are for 2024-25 and all rates are subject to change for 2025-26.

Bedrooms

All of the bedrooms are fully furnished single rooms with shared bathroom facilities; rooms are on average 12.2m2 in size.

Each bedroom is equipped with the following:

  • wash basin
  • fitted wardrobe
  • drawers
  • single bed
  • bedside cabinet
  • desk and desk chair
  • notice board
  • study lamp
  • litter bin
  • wireless internet facilities

There are a total of 186 single rooms available in Mitchell Hall for full-time students.


Catering

Mitchell Hall is a catered hall of residence, which means there are no kitchen facilities; however, a number of ‘kitchenettes’ with a shared fridge, microwave and a kettle are available for residents and are perfect for preparing snacks or light meals.

You will receive a meal card with a daily food allowance, which is sufficient for at least one main meal. Your meal card will be loaded with the appropriate amount of credit at the beginning of each month, enabling you to manage the balance to suit your own requirements.

Our meal cards may be used in the Reggie's restaurant located in Mitchell Hall; in Cranberries, located in the Stafford-Cripps building, and Cafe 52, in the Vincent building.

Bathrooms

Most of the rooms have shared bathroom facilities which are shared between 4 and 8 residents. The toilets and showers are separated.

The en suite rooms have:

  • their own shower or bath
  • wash hand basin and toilet.

Cleaning

We carry out weekly cleaning of all the communal areas.

Heating and electricity

The heating is usually on from October to April.
