Situated close to Milton Keynes and Bedford, the Cranfield campus is situated in Wharley End, very close to Cranfield village, and is about 10 minutes from the M1 motorway.  There is rail and road access to most major airports as well as coach and train stations. Cranfield campus also has its own airport for private executive business travel.

Please note that during August 2018 there are major roadworks planned on the M1 between junctions 13 and 16 that might affect your journey when visiting Cranfield. Learn more about the plans here.

Directions by road from London and the South

  • Take the M1 north to junction 13. 
  • At the roundabout, take the 4th exit signposted A507 in the direction of Bedford. 
  • At the second roundabout, take the second exit signposted to Cranfield, Hulcote and Salford. 
  • Continue along this road to Salford and turn right at T-junction, signposted Cranfield. 
  • Follow this road to the end and go straight across the first roundabout, right at the second, then left at the third. 
  • With the petrol station on your left go straight over the mini-roundabout, and the entrance to the University is the first road on your right - signposted 'Main Reception'.

Directions by road from Birmingham and the North

  • M1 south to junction 14. 
  • Take A509 in direction of Wellingborough, then immediately first right, proceed through Moulsoe, then turn left following signposts.

Directions by road from Bedford and the East

  • A428 then A422 west, exiting left into Astwood (7m), then left again following signposts. 
  • Or A421 south-west towards M1/Kempston/Milton Keynes, taking exit towards Cranfield/Marston Moretaine, then follow signposts towards Cranfield and then Cranfield University.

Directions by road from Oxford and the West

  • Follow A34, then A421, to Bicester, Buckingham and Milton Keynes. 
  • In Milton Keynes follow signs to M1 North (junction 14). 
  • Take A509 in direction of Wellingborough, then immediately first right, proceed through Moulsoe, then turn left following signposts.

Please visit one of the receptions to collect your visitor pass.

Parking your vehicle

All vehicles need to be registered with the University. When you collect your visitor pass, you will be able to register your vehicle if it hasn't already been done for you by your host. Alternatively, you can complete the temporary vehicle registration form in advance to save having to do this when collecting your visitor pass. The reception teams will direct you to the nearest visitor parking area. 



Visitor pass - prior to arrival

On arrival, please visit one of the receptions to collect your visitor pass. You will be able to register your vehicle if this has not already been done (see Parking on campus). The reception team will also direct you to the nearest visitor car park to the building you are visiting.



Rail travel

  • From London St Pancras to Bedford.  A bus service is available from Bedford to Cranfield University (see ‘Bus Travel’ below).
  • London Euston to Milton Keynes Central. Frequent, fast services. A bus service is available from Milton Keynes station to Cranfield University (see ‘Bus Travel’ below)

London Luton

Our nearest public airport is London Luton which is situated just off Junction 10 of the M1. More information on London Luton Airport  

From here you can catch a train direct from Luton Airport Parkway station to Bedford. National rail travel information website . On arriving at Bedford you can take a bus or taxi to the campus. (see 'Bus travel' and 'Taxi information' below).

Alternatively there are bus services (see ‘Bus travel’ below) to Milton Keynes, where you can change for a bus to Cranfield campus. Alternatively, a quicker option is to take a taxi (see ‘Taxi information’ below).
