Cranfield village and surrounding areas
Located on the other side of the Cranfield campus airfield, Cranfield village is a very popular accommodation option for students, with a good choice of privately rented houses, flats and lodgings.
You can cycle to the campus on the dedicated cycle path in 10 minutes, arrive by bus in 10-15 minutes or walk in 35 minutes. An attractive village, Cranfield offers a wide range of amenities, including two small supermarkets, several takeaway restaurants, two pubs, a hairdresser's and even its own football club! There is also a doctor’s surgery, pharmacy and dental practice. Cranfield has three public parks, one of which has a multi-use games area.
The surrounding villages close to Cranfield are Marston Moretaine, Lower and Upper Shelton and North Crawley. Marston Moretaine is 7km from Cranfield University (approximately 20 minutes via the Uno bus - see information below). Lower and Upper Shelton is 6km from the University campus (15 minutes via the Uno bus). North Crawley is only 3.2km from the University (10 minutes via the Uno bus).

Milton Keynes and surrounding areas
In the neighbouring county of Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes is just 11.2km from Cranfield University. The Uno bus journey from Milton Keynes to Cranfield University takes approximately 30 minutes (see below for further details about this service).
Popular local areas include Newport Pagnell (10km from the University and 20 minutes via the Uno bus) and Broughton (6.7km away from the University and 15 minutes via the Uno bus).
A truly cosmopolitan city, Milton Keynes combines 4,500 acres of parkland, lakes, rivers and woodland with a unique design and offers everything from extreme sports to top shopping and fine dining.

Bedford and surrounding areas
Bedford is a large town 17.6km away from the University (40 minutes via the Uno Bus - see information below).
Popular residential areas close to Bedford are Kempston (14.2km from Cranfield University, 35 minutes via the Uno bus) and Wootton (8.9km from the University, 30 minutes via the Uno bus).
Located on the banks of the beautiful River Great Ouse, Bedford is steeped in history and is a perfect day out with parks, riverside walks, sports and leisure activities.

Uno Bus provides local transport links from Bedford to Milton Keynes via Cranfield University. The buses run frequently and at regular times each day.

The X5 bus, run by Stagecoach, provides regular services between Bedford and Milton Keynes and to a number of major nearby cities/towns and their respective train stations, including Cambridge and Oxford.

London is easily accessible via train from both Milton Keynes and Bedford. MK Central Station's Virgin Trains service to Euston, in the heart of the capital, takes just 35 minutes, and other major cities such as Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester are also covered. Trains from Bedford to central London take around 45 minutes, and there is also a direct line to the coastal town of Brighton.
