Application Process guide

Who we are looking for

We are looking for candidates who aspire to – or currently hold – senior leadership roles. We also want to work with entrepreneurs eager to grow their businesses and the economy. People with the integrity and vision to drive organisations forward.

You will have proved your potential through at least three years of professional experience or by running your own business. And now you are ready for more.

Whether you want to:

  • Accelerate your current career or confidently change direction
  • Develop business acumen to help your start-up skyrocket
  • Challenge yourself to become a more effective leader

Our intensely personalised MBA programme will develop your unique strengths, to unlock the leader you’re meant to be.

Entry requirements

We welcome applications from talented candidates from all industries. Professional experience and personal qualities are equally important to us. We want students who challenge us and their classmates, people who strive for both personal and team success.

We want to know how ambitious and determined you are, what your potential is to grow and make a difference.

You should have:

  • At least three years of post-graduate work experience
  • A good university degree and/or professional qualification
  • Applicants without a university degree are welcome as long as they can demonstrate a high level of achievement, exceptional career development or leadership potential

Additional entry requirements for the Full-time MBA can be found on the programme page.

Visas and immigration

EEA students who arrive in the UK by 11pm on 31 December 2020, don’t need a visa even if they later leave the UK and re-enter. However, they will have until 30 June 2021 to apply for leave under the EU Settlement Scheme. Student immigration and Funding at Cranfield University support all our EEA students with the application process including helping them to fill in the application form and do the identity check.

If you arrive in the UK after 11pm on 31 December 2020, you will have to apply for visa under the Student visa route in place for all international students. You can apply for your Student visa within 6 months from your course start date. To apply under the Student visa route you will need to be issued a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) by Cranfield University. You will be able to complete your application, including identity verification, using a smartphone app called (ID Check). Some applicants may need to attend a Visa Application Centre if they are unable to access the application, or if they do not have a biometric passport. The UK Government published a guide for EEA students which provides more information. EEA and Swiss passport holders are exempt from requiring an ATAS certificate for UK study.

We also offer more advice and guidance on our visas and immigration page. There you will find contact information for the Student Immigration and funding team who can offer support.

Frequently asked questions

What question will I be asked during the interview?

Each interviewer has their own style, but all interviews start with an informal three-minute presentation - the topic of the presentation will be sent to you a week before. You will likely be asked questions about your career plans and how you expect the Cranfield MBA will help you to achieve them. You will also be asked questions you are not likely to have prepared for; this is designed to help us assess your mental agility.

What kind of working experience are you looking for in a candidate?

The Cranfield MBA values diversity, and we welcome candidates from many different professional backgrounds, including those who do not have private sector business experience. Our MBA community regularly includes candidates who have backgrounds in engineering, medicine, creative industries, and many more. We look for a minimum of three years' post-graduate work experience, showing good career progression. There is a wide range of experience levels within our MBA community; however, candidates typically have five years of experience. More important than the number of years is the quality of the experience. Much of the learning from an MBA comes from within the classroom community, so we ensure participants can contribute to classroom discussions and share interesting insights from their previous professional experience.

Does the MBA share the same resources as the Executive MBA?

The same Faculty teach on both programmes, and some modules are the same of both programmes.

Are there any networking activities?

There are many formal and informal opportunities for you to network while on the programme and after completing your MBA. For example, we hold regular Speaker Series, where alumni come back to share their experiences and other Career and Alumni events. The MBA students also organise social events such as Chinese New Year, Diwali, and an annual International Week.

How are modules assessed?

Modules are assessed either by examinations, individual assignments, group projects or group presentations, depending on the nature of the module.

How many modules will be delivered online/in person?

The Cranfield MBA programme is delivered entirely face-to-face on campus.

How do I sign up for the Cranfield MBA admission test?

Once you have submitted your application, it will be reviewed by the Selection Committee. If you are shortlisted for an interview once this has taken place, we will confirm whether we can offer you the opportunity to sit the Cranfield Admission Tests.

What is the MBA class size, and where do students come from?

The cohort size is approximately 50 students and comprises 17 different nationalities.

How long does the application process take?

Generally, you will receive a decision within six weeks of submitting your application.

What are the living costs at Cranfield?

Costs depend on whether you are coming alone or with a partner/family. Further information can be found here.
