Contact Vince Coombs

Background

Vince is a Munitions Safety Manager with Defence Equipment and Support, the procurement arm of the UK Ministry of Defence. Prior to this, he provided advice and guidance on the safe through life operation of weapons systems in the UK inventory as part of the Defence Ordnance Safety Group. Over all, Vince has experience in safety and environmental assurance for a range of systems from complex air to ground weapons to general munitions.

Vince completed his MSc in Explosive Ordnance Engineering at Cranfield University. Thesis project investigated the efficacy of Resonant Acoustic Mixing as measured by mix homogeneity.

Current activities

Vince is a part-time PhD student with the Cranfield University's Centre for Defence Chemistry. His research topic is centered on Inert Simulants for Use in Vulnerability Characterisation of Electro Explosive Devices (EED). This will encompass Thermal conductivity of Primary Energetic Materials. This research will support the alternative methods for representation of EEDs in component level and All up Round Electro Magnetic Environmental Testing.
