The Water theme at Cranfield University is home to two centres of excellence: Cranfield Water Science Institute and the Centre for Water, Environment, and Development. We offer postgraduate taught and research degrees as well as short courses on campus or in-company. If you have ambitions, research needs, or training requirements in the areas of water we’d be delighted to hear from you.

The Water Theme at Cranfield has a global reputation for its research on the science, engineering and management of water. Our lives and livelihoods are dependent on the natural and engineered water cycles. Accordingly, research and skills development in water treatment and management have never been more vital. Cranfield’s research in these areas is focused on fundamental science insights and practical solutions, and we have been driving innovation for over 40 years.

Our expertise is award-winning and our innovations are making water services and natural water bodies more resilient and sustainable. Our people have wide ranging expertise, with particular specialisms in water and wastewater treatment, water and sanitation in the developing world, water for agriculture, catchment management, as well as the human and governance aspects of water services.
