Speakers
Professor Weisi Guo
Professor Weisi Guo is Head of the Human Machine Intelligence Group, with over 270 papers published in machine learning and networks, including top tier journals such as Nature. Prof. Guo earned his MEng, MA, and PhD from the University of Cambridge and works closely with UK businesses, particularly in the aerospace and defence industries including: Leonardo, Saab, NPCC, and BAE Systems, and DSTL - driving UK onshore capability in AI and Autonomy.
He has been a Turing Fellow and researcher with The Alan Turing Institute, the UK's national institute for data science and artificial intelligence, since 2017. His research focuses on connected intelligence systems, including sustainable AI, low-carbon mobility-as-a-service, machine learning, communication networks, and socio-technical systems. He has a particular emphasis on AI for challenging environments, trustworthy autonomy, and safety assurance. Between 2012 and 2019, he built an award-winning research team at the University of Warwick before joining Cranfield in 2019, where he works closely with the £65M Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre (DARTeC).
He has served as Principal Investigator on over £8.2 million and investigator on over £35 million of funded research. For instance, he co-leads the EPSRC Trustworthy Autonomous Systems node in Security, and the EPSRC 6G Future Communications Hub in Distributed Computing, and his group holds 2 RAEng fellowships in adversarial AI in aviation. His group holds multiple prestigious fellowships, including Marie Skłodowska-Curie and Royal Academy of Engineering fellowships in adversarial AI in aviation.
His work has been recognised with several accolades, including the IET Innovation Award (2015) and being a three-time finalist in the Bell Labs Prize.
Kathryn White
Kathryn White is a PhD Researcher exploring how to build Inclusive Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, and is passionate about making entrepreneurship accessible to everyone. She has extensive experience in innovation and startup support, including Innovation Scouting in Silicon Valley, Global Research into Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, and Business Support and Mentoring in collaboration with University of Exeter, University of Essex, and Oxford Innovation Space. She has also worked in Corporate Innovation, and as Chief Operating Officer for a HealthTech startup. She regularly mentors business leaders on all aspects of running a startup, with a particular focus on innovation strategy, value proposition development, and improving operational processes.
As Innovation Manager for the Environmental Futures and Big Data Impact Lab, a partnership of seven research institutions, Kathryn helped Small-Medium Enterprises in Devon understand how to use data analytics to develop new products, services and processes.
Alan Wilson
Alan is a tech entrepreneur dedicated to building innovative solutions across fintech, e-commerce, and climate tech. Over the past two decades, he has founded and successfully exited multiple startups that have been used by millions of users worldwide.
Previously, Alan co-founded MoreTrees with Niki Tibble, a platform designed to make it easy for businesses to take climate action by planting trees for carbon sequestration and offsetting. Under his leadership, MoreTrees has empowered over 100,000 users to plant millions of trees and contribute to verified carbon offsets. The platform's success led to its acquisition by THG plc, where it continues to make a significant impact on the planet.
Most recently, Alan has co-founded Track Zero, a carbon accounting platform that makes it easy for businesses to track their carbon footprint and take action.
