Set in the midst of the stunning Bedfordshire countryside, Cranfield offers a rich, rural landscape complemented by thriving towns, postcard villages and a great sense of prestige.

Close to Milton Keynes and Bedford, the Cranfield campus is situated in Wharley End, close to Cranfield village, and is about 10 minutes from the M1 motorway.  There is rail and road access to most major airports as well as coach and train stations. Cranfield campus also has its own airport for private executive business travel.

By Car

Cranfield campus is located 10 minutes from the M1 motorway and can be accessed from either Junction 13 or 14 of the M1. If you are travelling using satellite navigation, our address is as follows:

By Bus

The University has partnered up with UNO to provide a bus service, making travel to and from campus easy, convenient and good value for money. All the buses have free Wi-Fi and low level entrance for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Stage coach buses are also available.

C1 is the bus route most student use to travel between the University, Bedford and Milton Keynes.

Buses arrive approximately every 20 to 30 minutes on weekdays, roughly every hour on Saturdays and up to 90 minutes on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

National Express also run coaches from several major UK airports to nearby towns and tourist attraction hotspots.

Please note: Occasionally different companies will refer to the University under a different name. The main bus stop is named as 'Cranfield University' or 'Wharley End (Cranfield), Cranfield University main gate'.

By Train

Bedford and Milton Keynes train stations are the closest train stations to Cranfield University and connect you to many of the major cities in the UK.

From London St Pancras, Bedford is accessible within 50 minutes and from London Euston, Milton Keynes is accessible in 35 minutes. Both stations have connecting buses to bring you to Cranfield University.

By Taxi

Cranfield University is approximately 20 minutes from Milton Keynes and Bedford. Many taxis can be pre-booked prior to the journey through the several companies operating within the area.

You can also book or pre-book a licensed black cab through the free mobile app, Gett. Gett is available to download in the Android and iPhone app stores.

By Air

The nearest airport to Cranfield is London Luton Airport which is 30 minutes away, situated just off Junction 10 of the M1. From here you can fly to a number of European destinations. You can also catch a train direct from Luton Airport Parkway station to Bedford and then either a bus or taxi to Cranfield. Alternatively, there are buses and coaches available.

The Cranfield campus also has its own airport which is available for private, executive air travel.

Parking and visitor permits

There are allocated visitor parking spaces across the campus. Please check the campus map for more information.

Visitors will need to be issued a parking permit when visiting Cranfield University. You can either be issued one prior to your arrival by contacting the person you are visiting or any of our receptions and provide them with the following details:

  • your vehicle registration
  • the name of the person you are visiting
  • the length of visit.

Your Visitor Permit can then be collected from any Receptions on arrival. Alternatively you can visit any of our Receptions and pick up a parking permit on arrival.

Coming by bicycle?

Over 300 cycle hoops and four cycle shelters are available on the Cranfield campus. There is a shared cycle and walking path connecting the Cranfield campus with the south side of Cranfield village which was made possible thanks to joint funding from the University, Sustrans, Central Bedfordshire Council and the Cranfield Parish Council. The route is approximately a 10-minute cycle and 20-minute walk from the campus to the village and links into the Sustrans National cycle route no51.

All cyclists who are parking their bicycle on campus need to register with security. They also must follow the Highway Code.
