The third PhD project supported by the Sue White Fund for Africa is underway. Frank Mnthambala has begun work on a project entitled: Evaluating phosphorus dynamics from renewable sources to meet crop demand and minimise environmental pollution.

Frank will be supported by the University of Malawi and supervised by Dr Ruben Sakrabani at Cranfield University. Industrial sponsorship is provided by the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag).

The project aims to evaluate the supply and demand of Phosphorus fertiliser used to support sustainable agriculture in Malawi and to increase the utilisation of renewable sources of P. Field trials will investigate the use of market, sewage and municipal waste composts to meet crop demand whilst minimising environmental impact.
