We offer a large choice of taught master’s programmes leading to the degrees of MSc, MBA, MRes, MDes, PgDip or PgCert.

Master of Science – MSc

Successful completion of a Master of Science taught course demonstrates in-depth knowledge in a specialist subject. The degree will include a structured programme of technical skills, design, development, or management studies. Your course will combine taught material with independent research.

Master of Business Administration - MBA

A taught master's programme, the MBA can be taken on a full-time basis for one year or part-time/modular basis over two years.

It involves undertaking core modules and a number of elective modules, including a personal and professional development module.

Assessment takes place throughout the programme with examinations contributing to 50% of the total marks and case study reports, class tests, group presentations and project work contributing to the remaining 50%.

Master of Research - MRes

Usually a year in length full-time (and two at part-time), an MRes provides intensive research training within a named discipline.

As with a taught MSc, it involves a number of taught modules, including a research techniques module, a group project and an individual thesis project.

Master of Design - MDes

This is a specific taught programme leading to a named degree. The MDes programme is usually one year in length (full-time), although may be two to three years if studied part-time.

As well as taught components, the MDes also involves completion of a group project and an individual project resulting in the production of a thesis. The MDes comprises 200 credit points, where one credit points equals 10 notional learning hours.

Postgraduate Diploma - PgDip

This qualification is available for some of Cranfield’s taught courses.

While it is delivered and assessed at master's level, the PgDip is of shorter duration and is worth 120 credit points.

Usually the PgDip represents the taught element of the associated MSc, although occasionally the curriculum requires a group project or integrated assessment.

Postgraduate Certificate - PgCert

This qualification is available for some of Cranfield’s taught courses.

Delivered and assessed at master's level, the PgCert is worth 60 credit points (600 notional learning hours) and comprises a subset of the syllabus for the taught element of the associated MSc/PgDip course.

Pre-Master's in Engineering

Taken on a full-time basis over one year, this programme is available for students whose prior qualifications do not reach the standard entry requirements for a master's programme.

Assessment is via examination, assignments and design exercises/projects. Successful completion results in registration for an associated MSc course.
