What was Cranfield's impact

Heru describes his MSc year as “a quantum leap in my intellectual knowledge, as well as my practical skills” which has provided him with the skills to compete among the bank’s talent pool.

After graduating from us in 2009, Heru secured a job in the monetary management department at Bank Indonesia, which is the central bank of the largest economy in South East Asia and a member of the G20. He was responsible for the analysis of global and domestic money market developments, as well as for providing recommendations to the board of governors on a daily basis. He was also responsible for preparing presentations for board of governors’ meetings where weekly monetary operations are set. In addition, Heru’s role involved the identification of potential crises and possible mitigation policies. This allowed him to gain significant expertise in this area and contribute to shaping policies within the central bank.

In September 2014, Heru returned to us to join the Cranfield PhD programme. His main research is sponsored by Bank Indonesia and focuses on the identification, forecasting and drivers of twin financial crises as well as the investigation of policy responses. He is undertaking the programme under the supervision of Dr Catarina Figueira, Director of the Centre.
