Start your company’s Net Zero Journey today!

With the threat of climate change and increasing energy costs all businesses, irrespective of their size and sector, need to consider how they can reduce their carbon emissions. Beginning your journey to reduce your business’ emissions will not only reduce your effect on the planet but can also reduce your running costs and increase the sustainable growth of your business.

SME Scholarship Programme

Thanks to funding from the Community Renewal Fund and in partnership with SEMLEP all SMEs in North and West Northamptonshire can now apply to attend a fully-funded GRIP Energy course to increase the sustainability of their business under the Green Recovery and Innovation Programme (GRIP).

The GRIP Energy course will be taught by business and carbon experts from Cranfield University.

GRIP Energy Course Content

Using interactive group sessions and 1:1 coaching, the GRIP Energy course will provide business leaders with the tools and skills they need to measure their company’s current carbon emission and develop a credible de-carbonisation plan to embed their businesses' Net Zero ambitions within their growth plans.

Each workshop will consist of:

  1. An introduction to global warming issues for SMEs, why these matter, and how they impact business growth.
  2. A review of the techniques used to derive Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions for a company, with a template provided for the company to calculate their own emissions.
  3. A case study of a medium-sized enterprise, walking through the techniques used to calculate their emissions to reinforce the methods used and demonstrate how the template should later be used by the company.
  4. A session to introduce credible methods of setting carbon reduction targets within a Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP). A CRP template will be provided for setting those targets and recording them in a meaningful, marketable way.
  5. An explanation of the grant application process for the GRIP programme participants to implement the activities associated with their carbon reduction plans.

After the group session, each company will be offered a 1:1 coaching session with an expert from Cranfield University to discuss their CRP. This session will examine the scope and breadth of their company and its products/services and will offer coaching for customisation methods they may wish to employ when undertaking their carbon audits and target-setting activities

Each company will leave the workshop with the tools needed to accomplish a credible carbon audit of their business and produce or revise their CRP. They will each have a target to develop their CRP within two weeks of the workshop. Companies will send these CRPs to SEMLEP and Cranfield University for review and feedback.
