Cranfield University has been praised with a positive report from Ofsted, which rated its apprenticeship offering ‘good’ in all areas in a first full inspection visit. The report commended the University for the quality of its teaching, impactful industry connections, excellent facilities, and support for apprentices.
Professor Sean Tyrrel, Pro-Vice-Chancellor – Education at Cranfield University said: “Receiving a good rating overall in our first full inspection is a great achievement for Cranfield. I’m delighted with the outcome, and very proud of what we have accomplished in the six years since launching our first apprenticeship.”
Cranfield currently has 1,280 apprentices undertaking training in professional fields relevant to technology and management. The University offers apprenticeship training at postgraduate Level 7 at its Cranfield and Shrivenham sites and at undergraduate Level 6 at MK:U, a new model undergraduate institution that Cranfield leads in Milton Keynes.
Ofsted’s visit took place in January 2024. Praising the high-quality teaching in its report, the inspectors noted that “…teaching staff are highly experienced in the industries in which they teach...As a result, apprentices gain substantial new knowledge and skills that help them to excel in their job roles and prepare effectively for promoted posts at work.”
The report also said that a “well-considered and ambitious curriculum…is aligned closely to the needs of local, regional and national employers.”
“We will use the inspection report to support further improvements so that our apprentices continue to have the very best experience possible,” continued Professor Tyrrel.
