Background

Xinyue Chen is currently conducting her research on Data-Driven Strategies for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) supply chain configuration as a PhD candidate at Cranfield University.

The strong interest aroused by the urgent need for aviation decarbonisation and the complex management challenges of the SAF transition prompted Xinyue to continue her research under the supervision of Dr. Huang and Prof. Xie. Her study aims to bridge the gap between operational management and advanced analytics by synergising supply chain modelling, machine learning and text mining. By designing a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based supply chain , she seeks to ensure economic viability and scalability for future demand. Xinyue is looking forward to applying her academic achievements to provide actionable, data-based strategies that accelerate the adoption of sustainable fuels and contribute to the industry's net-zero goals.

Research opportunities

Xinyue’s research mainly utilises advanced data-driven analytical tools — combining Geographic Information Systems (GIS), machine learning and supply chain modelling — to undertake network configuration and scenario simulation , paving the way for theoretically sound and practically feasible Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) supply chains. Her research interests are driven by the vision of accelerating aviation decarbonisation — creating solutions that are economically viable and resilient against the complexities of future demand and logistics.
