Background
For over 2 decades John has been building and leading high-performance teams in a wide range of sectors, for businesses of many different shapes and sizes, regularly for initiatives that broke new ground commercially. He has worked in Professional Services, Management Consulting, Business Process Outsourcing, IT Services and Manufacturing. For £bn++ multinationals and scaling, pre-profit regionals.
He was a Partner at a top 10 accountancy firm, where he created and implemented a 5-year strategic plan to develop the infrastructure, processes and behaviours to deliver sustainable growth - revenues increased 32% during that time. He also designed and led the firm's multi award-winning scale-up programme.
More broadly, John has spent the last 8 years in the scale-up ecosystem, helping make the UK the best place in the world to scale a business and is passionately committed to leveraging his broad skill set, and extensive network, for the benefit of ambitious and growing businesses.
John has also been a FA Level 1 coach for 5 years, working in grassroots youth football. It's taught him that, no matter how tough work gets, nothing is as hard as teaching the wing-back system to a group of 12 year olds!
Current activities
John is now currently focused on building his portfolio career and helping ambitious leaders build brilliant businesses. He is a co-chair of the People, Talent & Leadership Committee at the ScaleUp Institute; an Executive Coach and a Facilitator with a Business Growth Accelerator. Whatever he does, John brings energy, enthusiasm and a positive attitude, as well as a desire ' to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - that is to have succeeded.'
