This course will introduce the principles of hygiene evaluation and promotion, providing an understanding of planning using a systematic attempt to enable people to take action to prevent or mitigate water, sanitation, and hygiene related diseases. 

The course will enable you to identify motives for changing behaviours and understand the use of positive messaging, appropriate channels for communication, participation planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation to facilitate enabling an environment for easy adoption of hygiene practises.

Course structure

This course is delivered via a mixture of lectures and practical sessions. During this short course, you will be joined by full-time and part-time students from our master's and PhD courses, creating a dynamic and interactive experience.

To understand the principles of health promotion, approaches and tools to hygiene promotion, and the monitoring and evaluation of the project cycle.

  • Design a hygiene promotion project, and understand the key components, barriers and motivations,
  • Understand the approaches and tools to hygiene promotion using social marketing, PHAST and CLTS,
  • Monitor and evaluate a hygiene promotion project cycle.
