Course structure

The total length of course is three days and consists of several lectures, practical lab workshops and case study sessions.

What you will learn

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Identify and analyse the concepts and principals of energy harvesting,
  • Assess and analyse appropriate design approaches for applications of energy harvesting technologies,
  • Evaluate and select appropriate designs, scales, and tools of energy harvesting devices for meeting the power demand of applications,
  • Understanding the future development of energy harvesting and their potential applications.

Core content

  • Introduction and fundamentals of energy harvesting,
  • A thorough study of the energy sources that allows estimating the level of available energy and selecting the most appropriate EH transduction mechanisms - piezoelectric, electromagnetic, electrostatic, triboelectric, as well as other EH conversion mechanisms, such as solar energy.
  • Describing the common types of energy harvesting designs and their power output scales,
  • Identification and description of the energy harvesters currently available in the market,
  • Introduction of the common applications of energy harvesting technologies,
  • Case studies on energy harvesting in applications, including their designs, communication, signal and data analysis, control, and performance. The case studies will provide examples of energy harvesting currently used in relevant applications, showing their technical viability, economic viability, technology readiness, commercial readiness, performance, and challenges.
  • Lab sessions for testing and evaluating energy harvesting devices.

Who should attend

This training is suitable for electronic, mechanical, energy engineers and professionals that want to obtain knowledge on energy harvesting, their applications, and the relevant potentials in their respective sectors.
