Our work is truly global, reaching across Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, South America and SE Asia.
We host a number of national and international data assets, such as the Land Information Systems (LandIs) on the soils of England and Wales, and the National Soil Inventory (NSI). We also hold historic ‘legacy’ data covering the globe, such as the World Soil Survey Archive and Catalogue (WOSSAC).
Our academic and research staff are active in a number of complementary areas.
Members of the soil systems and land management group conduct theoretical and applied research in soil physics, chemistry and biology; biophysical modelling; ecosystem goods and services; and sustainable soil management.
In Applied Informatics, our research is focussed on the role of computational analytical approaches and data-driven processes for addressing key pressing societal challenges across the environmental, agricultural and biological domains.
Our Plants and Food experts are advancing postharvest biology and technology, crop genetics underpinning sustainable food production, and food safety related to mycotoxins and microbiological spoilage.
