Types of research undertaken by AVEC

AVEC engages in all forms of research and collaborative R&D from Fundamental (TRL 1-3) all the way through Industrial Research (TRL 4-7) and even bespoke investigations at higher TRL. For further information on the area most applicable to you, please choose from the following options:

  • Academic research - usually funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), AVEC provide research opportunities at PhD and other levels.
  • Industrial / commercial research - usually funded by a company seeking a private research activity leveraging the expertise and facilities within AVEC and possibly linking across to other Cranfield groups, such as Aerospace, Energy, Cyber etc.
  • Collaborative R&D (CR&D) - usually supported financially by Innovate UK and often led by one of the commercial organisations in the consortium.
AVEC have not only participated in many Innovate UK and Niche Vehicle Network CR&D projects, but also international and ATI-funded collaborative work where our expertise can be brought to bear on challenges facing aerospace, such as large landing gear for aircraft and autonomous airside vehicles such as baggage handling.
