Application guidance
Download the Apprenticeship Application Journey for full details of each step in the process.
There are two elements to the application for your apprenticeship. The first is the academic application – this assesses your academic ability to complete the programme. The second element is the Initial Assessment – this confirms your eligibility for apprenticeship funding. Part of the Initial Assessment is a maths and English assessment to confirm your current working level. All applicants must undertake this, irrelevant of any prior qualifications.
It can take around 6 to 8 weeks from the point of submission to receiving an offer. Timelines can be impacted by how quickly you complete the Initial Assessment after academic application and the number of applications we are receiving.
Get ready to apply
Before you start your application, make sure you have scanned copies of your academic or professional qualifications to hand as we will ask you to upload these with your application form.
Once you have opened the application link, please click on the 'New User' button to create an account and follow the online instructions to complete your online application as soon as you can.
When you have finished your application form and uploaded your scanned documents, click 'Submit' at the end of the form. This will send your application directly to our Admissions Team.
Completing the Initial Assessment
As part of your application for your apprenticeship, we need to undertake an Apprenticeship Initial Assessment to establish your current working level, including any prior qualifications and experiential learning that maps to the relevant apprenticeship standard. Our Initial Assessment has been designed to meet the requirements of the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) apprenticeship rules.
Your Initial Assessment must show that you require significant new knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs). An apprenticeship is for individuals who need to learn new KSBs, rather than those who are already occupationally competent in these areas.
The Initial Assessment focuses on assessing your current maths and English working levels. You are required to complete maths and English Initial Assessments using the BKSB platform.
If you need any help to complete your application or have any other questions, please contact the Apprenticeships Office by emailing apprenticeships@cranfield.ac.uk. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
