Research opportunities
Simon’s research embarks on a comprehensive exploration of entrepreneurial exits, meticulously navigating the trajectory from problem formulation to a critical analysis of existing literature. The purpose of this research is to justify and explain how to operationalise questions developed in current gaps during literature reviews. Current literature reviews uncover notable gaps, particularly the need for empirical research to address the identified knowledge deficiencies.
By homing in on the exit stage and scrutinising the internal acceptance and commitment to proceed, Simon’s researchaims to unravel the intricate journey undergone by entrepreneurs during this critical phase. His research promises insights into the evolution of pathways and the myriad influences shaping them. The current phase of investigation engages with professionals employed by exiting entrepreneurs, irrespective of exit type (harvest, stewardship, liquidation), seeking to unravel the motivations and decision-making processes leading from ‘commitment to exit’ to the actual performance of the exit.
Simon’s methodology involves extracting distinguished attributes that shape exit outcomes through a novel approach—utilising a Repertory Grid. This innovative technique enables Simon to tap into the expertise of professionals guiding exiting entrepreneurs, providing an in-depth understanding of their perspectives and contributing valuable insights to the field. In conclusion, his thesis not only illuminates the existing gaps in the literature but also sets the stage for a nuanced and comprehensive exploration of entrepreneurial exits, offering potential avenues for future research and practical applications in the entrepreneurial landscape.
