Background

Dr Sun holds a PhD in Finance and Economics from Imperial College Business School, and has worked in financial markets for 5 years across her career, including international organisations such as International Monetary Fund and Deutsche Bundesbank (German Central Bank), as well as asset manager State Street Global Advisors and insurer Just Group Plc.

Her areas of expertise include but are not restricted to financial networks, systemic risk; applying machine learning technologies in finance and insurance; quantitative investment and risk management etc. She has been published in internationally peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Risk and Insurance and Quantitative Finance. Her research paper won an award at the international conference, 4th European Conference on Banking and the Economy (ECOBATE 2016).

Current activities

Dr Sun plays a leading role in a team of international, multi-disciplinary academics with a focused and timely research vision. She recently won a grant by Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF) by Research England (part of the UK Research and Innovation), as part of the UK's Official Development Assistance (ODA) initiatives, focusing on issues of equity release mortgages in emerging markets. She is working with economists at IMF, Ministry of Economy and banking industry regulators in Emerging market countries of the ODA list.

She is teaching the Quantitative Methods course for the PhD programme at Cranfield School of Management. She has supervised MSc thesis. She is open for PhD supervision in the topics of quantitative finance and economics such as Digital Banking, Fintech and other more general topics and interdisciplinary studies with faculty members from other departments or schools at Cranfield.
