Who is it for?
The programme is for employers who want to accelerate the development of a cohort of high-potential leaders, building the organisation’s leadership pipeline and strategic leadership capability. It is not suitable for a lone individual from one organisation, the Executive MBA is more appropriate.
Participants should have the potential and ambition to contribute to the strategic leadership of the organisation.
Why this course?
The Business and Strategic Leadership MSc is an opportunity for you to offer your high-potential employees a postgraduate qualification and personal development opportunity with one of the UK’s top business schools. It is also an opportunity for you to benefit from the organisational development impact that comes from collaborating on customised executive development with a world-class provider.
Individuals who undertake the programme will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours that underpin successful strategic leadership.
As an employer organisation you will strengthen your leadership pipeline, improve retention, and create a network of individuals working on projects and initiatives, with the support of Cranfield experts, that contribute to strategy and successful change.
Your employees will graduate from the programme with an enhanced ability to research organisational problems from a variety of perspectives, developing more robust solutions to the organisation’s strategic challenges.
Over the course of the programme, not only will they broaden and deepen their network within your organisation but they will also join Cranfield’s active alumni network of 60,000 managers and leaders across the globe.
The programme can also be run for a small consortium of organisations. You might wish to consider establishing a consortium from you own supply chain to build more effective relationships across organisations.

The Business and Strategic Leadership MSc is a practical course requiring the ability to apply theory to live issues. It is set up as a Postgraduate Certificate which leads to a Postgraduate Diploma and then to an MSc.
The qualification allows for an element of customisation, which is agreed during the diagnostic phase at the start of the process.
Customisation is achieved in a number of ways; through two elective modules, course assessments, an action learning project, application of learning during modules to organisational issues, and a personal development process that looks for evidence of the application of theory to individual’s live challenges.
The Certificate focuses on being able to understand a business, its strengths and weaknesses so that in the Diploma phase a participant can stand in the shoes of a leader and look at what needs to change, and to innovate in order to meet the strategic agenda. The MSc element requires that each learner undertakes an indepth project, agreed with the employer organisation, examining the issue from the perspective of all relevant modules in order to make recommendations for change.
The qualification has shown that it enables people to understand and analyse their current and future contribution and equips them to make valuable changes, or recommendations for change, that benefit the organisation and develops them as individuals. This requires a close partnership between employer and the university to align course material to the key issues in the organisation and ensure synchronicity.
Keeping our courses up-to-date and current requires constant innovation and change. The modules we offer reflect the needs of business and industry and the research interests of our staff. As a result, they may change or be withdrawn due to research developments, legislation changes or for a variety of other reasons. Changes may also be designed to improve the student learning experience or to respond to feedback from students, external examiners, accreditation bodies and industrial advisory panels.
To give you a taster, we have listed the compulsory modules affiliated with this course which ran in the academic year 2018–2019. Also (where applicable) some optional modules which were offered in the same academic year. There is no guarantee that these modules will run for 2019 entry as all modules are subject to change depending on your year of entry.
