The course has been designed to meet the requirements of the Level 7 Senior Leaders Master’s Degree Apprenticeship, and develops high-potential leaders who can:

- Identifying longer-term opportunities and risks
- Act with agility to deliver results
- Build ethical, innovative and supportive cultures.
Subject to eligibility, employer organisations will be able to use the Apprenticeship Levy to fund this programme for a cohort of employees.

The programme is for employers who want to accelerate the development of a cohort of high-potential leaders, building the organisation’s leadership pipeline and strategic leadership capability. It is not suitable for a lone individual from one organisation, the Executive MBA is more appropriate.

The Business and Strategic Leadership MSc is a practical course requiring the ability to apply theory to live issues. It is set up as a Post-Graduate Certificate which leads to a Post-Graduate Diploma and then to an MSc.
The qualification allows for an element of customisation, which is agreed during the diagnostic phase at the start of the process.
Customisation is achieved in a number of ways; through two elective modules, course assessments, an action learning project, application of learning during modules to organisational issues, and a personal development process that looks for evidence of the application of theory to individual’s live challenges.
The Certificate focuses on being able to understand a business, its strengths and weaknesses so that in the Diploma phase a participant can stand in the shoes of a leader and look at what needs to change, and to innovate in order to meet the strategic agenda. The MSc element requires that each learner undertakes an indepth project, agreed with the employer organisation, examining the issue from the perspective of all relevant modules in order to make recommendations for change.
The qualification has shown that it enables people to understand and analyse their current and future contribution and equips them to make valuable changes, or recommendations for change, that benefit the organisation and develops them as individuals. This requires a close partnership between employer and the university to align course material to the key issues in the organisation and ensure synchronicity.
Keeping our courses up-to-date and current requires constant innovation and change. The modules we offer reflect the needs of business and industry and the research interests of our staff and, as a result, may change or be withdrawn due to research developments, legislation changes or for a variety of other reasons. Changes may also be designed to improve the student learning experience or to respond to feedback from students, external examiners, accreditation bodies and industrial advisory panels.
