Successful applicants will be supervised by a member of academic staff in the centre to carry a one-year research project closely related to the key CBRM research activities including:

  • Biomass and waste to energy technologies; Energy from Waste
  • Composite and polymer/plastic recycling and remanufacturing
  • Anaerobic fermentation technology
  • Upcycling of materials from enhanced landfill mining
  • Catalysis of synthetic gases and fuels;
  • High pressure engineering and supercritical fluid technology;
  • Industrial biotechnology;
  • Energy storage and harvesting
  • Process modelling and simulation.

Following the successful completion of the MSc by Research programme, an outstanding student may have the opportunity to be transferred onto a PhD programme.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a first or second-class UK honours degree or equivalent in a related science and engineering discipline, such as Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering. The candidate should be self-motivated, have good communication skills for regular interaction with stakeholders, with an interest for industrial research.
