A delegation of State Ambassadors from Nordic and Baltic countries visited Cranfield University this week [Tuesday 10 March], as part of a wider programme to explore the Oxford to Cambridge Growth Corridor.

Identified by the UK Government as a key region for innovation-led growth, the Oxford to Cambridge Growth Corridor brings together leading universities, businesses and research institutions and has the potential to deliver significant economic benefits for the UK.

During the visit, the group explored several of Cranfield’s major research and innovation facilities. These included the Sir Peter Gregson Aerospace Integration Research Centre (AIRC), which supports collaboration between industry and academia to develop next-generation aerospace technologies.

They also visited the University’s drone arena, where researchers develop and test drone platforms and autonomous systems, and the Welding and Additive Manufacturing Centre, which focuses on advanced manufacturing technologies.

The delegation also toured the Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre (DARTeC), a global research facility developing technologies that will transform the way aircraft are designed, manufactured and operated.

Professor Dame Karen Holford DBE FREng, Chief Executive and Vice-Chancellor of Cranfield University, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the ambassadors to Cranfield and to showcase some of our unique facilities and research expertise. Visits such as this highlight the important role Cranfield plays within the Oxford to Cambridge Growth Corridor in driving innovation and collaboration.”
