Cranfield University has become an Associated Institute for one of the experiments of the largest particle physics laboratory in the world.
The University is now an official member of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) research group at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland.
It means Cranfield is one of a few select UK institutions involved in the research.
Professor Dame Helen Atkinson DBE FREng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the School of Aerospace, Transport Systems and Manufacturing at Cranfield University, said: “We are delighted to have become an official member of the CMS research group at CERN.
“This membership not only demonstrates our commitment to pushing the boundaries of scientific research, but it also provides an unparalleled opportunity for our researchers and students to collaborate with some of the world's leading physicists on cutting-edge experiments.
“We look forward to contributing to the important work of the CMS collaboration and making significant scientific discoveries together.”
