For the first time, employers who pay the Apprenticeship Levy will be able to use the money to pay for their employees to study on Cranfield School of Management’s part-time Master’s degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

The two-year postgraduate degree aims to enhance participants’ knowledge and capability to manage and plan supply chains within an overall business environment in an integrated and co-ordinated way. It raises their awareness and appreciation of advanced logistics, procurement and supply chain practices; develops their ability to critically select the tools and techniques needed to overcome obstacles and challenges; and teaches them how to lead effectively throughout the supply chain life-cycle.

Cranfield School of Management was the first business school in the UK to offer an Executive MBA through the Apprenticeship Levy and now offers a suite of Master’s level apprenticeships through its MastershipsTM programmes.

Professor Michael Bourlakis, Director of the Centre for Logistics, Procurement & Supply Chain Management, Cranfield School of Management, said: “Cranfield School of Management has led the way in developing Master’s level apprenticeships. Since launching our MastershipsTM programmes, we have been overwhelmed by the number of employers who have contacted us wanting to invest in world-class management education in order to develop their workforce.

“Using the apprenticeship levy enables businesses to work with us to match the needs of their employees’ education with the needs of their business. I am delighted that we can now offer businesses the opportunity to enhance the skills of their senior employees with the apprenticeship levy through our Logistics and Supply Chain Management programme.”

Cranfield’s Centre for Logistics, Procurement and Supply Chain Management is one of the largest faculty groups in Europe specialising in the management of logistics and supply chains, and has been delivering relevant education and research activities for more than 45 years. The Logistics and Supply Chain Management MSc (Executive) is taught by the university’s expert faculty, alongside senior supply chain professionals from industry.

Stacy-Ann Sarwan graduated from the course last year. She said “What I love most about the course is that you cover everything you need to know about logistics and supply chain operations from warehousing, freight and sourcing to re-designing and networking a supply chain. It’s very broad-based and it gives you a lot of options to specialise in any of those areas.”

Under the legislation, which came into force in April 2017, all organisations with a pay bill greater than £3 million must pay a 0.5% levy. The money can then be used to fund apprenticeship training for new or existing staff, but will be removed from their account by the Government if they do not spend it within 24 months.
