Cranfield University has become a member of a Government-backed initiative to develop strong capabilities in the business of defence.
UK Defence Solutions Centre (DSC) is part of the Defence Growth Partnership and offers collaborative support to companies competing in the global defence market. It is an independent partnership between the UK Government and the UK defence industry.
At the Farnborough International Air Show the Defence Secretary, Michael Fallon, welcomed three new organisations to the membership of the UK DSC, including Cranfield.
Mr Fallon was given a tour of the UK DSC at the Air Show where he met representatives of Cranfield, including Dr Simon Harwood, Director of Defence and Security.
The Secretary of State said: “The Defence Growth Partnership brings together the best minds in the defence industry and is a fine example of British initiative.”
Chief Executive of the UK Defence Solution Centre, Steve Brittan added: “The Defence Growth Partnership is all about ensuring the UK remains at the forefront of the global defence market.
Through the UK Defence Solution Centre, we’ve been able to demonstrate that great innovation exists here in the UK which will serve the needs of both our Armed Forces and international customers.”
After meeting Mr Fallon, Dr Harwood said: “Cranfield University is delighted to become an associate member of the UK DSC.
“As one of the world's leading universities for defence and security research and education, we look forward to supporting the efforts of the consortium through thought leadership, practical education and research to help deliver innovative and tailored world-class defence solutions.”
