Cranfield University is one of 14 UK universities chosen to partner with the Transport System Catapult (TSC) in a new programme that will improve collaboration between academia and industry.

The Transport Systems Catapult is the UK's technology and innovation centre for Intelligent Mobility, harnessing emerging technologies to improve the movement of people and goods around the world.

The TSC has awarded £1 million over three years to support activities at 14 universities. The University Partner Programme will promote collaboration with business and focus on the development of products and solutions in the field of Intelligent Mobility – an emerging global market estimated to be worth £900bn per year by 2025.

Steve Yianni, Chief Executive Officer of the TSC said: “This programme will bring universities and businesses closer together to work on solutions to the most pressing transport challenges, and make those ideas a commercial success."

As well as fostering further links between universities and businesses, the scheme will enhance the Catapult's activities in different regions of the UK, and provide a network of expertise that will help businesses access knowledge across a range of disciplines.

The programme will also allow researchers to spend time at the Catapult's world-class Imovation Centre (which combines Intelligent Mobility and innovation) in Milton Keynes and work alongside industry experts to develop solutions to the sector's main challenges.

As a TSC Partner Programme centre the University will be targeted with projects and as a potential partner in bidding initiatives. With its locality Cranfield anticipates it will be used as a focal point for conferences and dissemination events and will be looked to first as a demonstrator venue.
