Background

Zhang Wen received his MSc in Aerospace Vehicle Design from Cranfield University in 2023, and received his BEng in Automation from Harbin University of Science and Technology in 2021. After completing his undergraduate studies, he worked as an Assistant Engineer at China National Petroleum Corporation (PetroChina). Before returning to Cranfield University to pursue his doctoral studies, he also studied at Northwestern Polytechnical University. He is currently a PhD student in AI, Robotics, and Space at Cranfield University under the supervision of Dr. Hae-In Lee and Prof. Antonios Tsourdos.

Current activities

Zhang Wen is currently working on Project U-AGREE, which is funded by the SESAR Joint Undertaking under the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme. His research focuses on the development of autonomous decision-making and planning algorithms for U-space and Advanced Air Mobility, building upon Cranfield University’s ATM/UTM R&D Environment (AURD). His work aims to maximise operational efficiency while ensuring safety in complex, risk-sensitive Advanced Air Mobility scenarios.
