Background

Washington Mhangami is currently researching on the application of data analytics in Aviation Safety Risk Management since January 2022 at Cranfield University. He is a consultant and instructor for International Air Transport Association (IATA),UK Civil Aviation Authority International (CAAi) and also a senior academic.

Before joining Cranfield, he obtained his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Aeronautical Engineering from Ukraine Civil Aviation University in 1996. He also obtained his Masters in Business Administration from The Open University, UK in 2001. Washington has helped a number of airlines in the world implement safety management systems and also carry out safety investigations. He has worked as an airline flight crew member.

Current activities

Washington is carrying out his research with the School Of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing at Cranfield University. His PhD research focuses on the application of data analytics in Aviation Safety Risk Management. The research looks into the quantitative measurement of risk in airline operations using probabilistic methods.
