Background

Sundar is a research assistant at the Welding and Additive Manufacturing Centre(WAMC), Cranfield University. Sundar supports the modelling activities at the centre, focussing on thermo-mechanical modelling of Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) and on fast prediction methods for modelling large scale parts. Prior to working as a Research Assistant, Sundar received his MSc by Research in Manufacturing at WAMC for his thesis "Understanding and Improving the Inherent Strain method for Mechanical Prediction of Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing" which focused on fast prediction of residual stresses and distortion in Ti-6Al-4V alloy for the NEWAM project.

Sundar previously worked as a Graduate Engineer Trainee designing and modelling bevel gears at Sona Comstar, one of the largest manufacturers of differential bevel gears in the world. Prior to that, he studied B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from BITS Pilani. His bachelor's thesis on 'Non-linear Finite Element modelling of Fibre Reinforced Tyres' was sponsored by Mercedes-Benz R&D India.
