Graduating from Oxford University (Pembroke College) with a Master of Chemistry (MChem), Peter's research thesis (Part II) was in organic chemistry.
He specialises in working with energetic materials, and thermal analysis. He maintains the Thermal Analysis suite, including Dynamic Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), checking calibration, training students and running samples. He also maintains the FTIR and U.V./Vis Spectrophotometer, and the Particle Size Analyser. Working at CDS for over ten years, he has worked on projects involving thermal analysis of energetic materials, polymers and fuels.
Peter is also completing a PhD (Part-Time) in new propellants using commercially available binders.
