Background

Maryam is a PhD researcher in Environmental sustanability within the center of Energy System and Strategy, part of the Automotive, Energy and Photonics theme at Cranfield University, with a B Eng. in Petroleum Engineering at ATBU Bauchi, and an MSc in Pertroleum and environmental technology from Coventry University. Her research focuses in environmental sustainability, subsurface energy systems and geological carbon dioxide (CO₂) storage. My research investigates the influence of historical well data quality and uncertainty on legacy well integrity risk classification for CO₂ storage in depleted oil and gas reservoirs.

Research opportunities

My research focuses on understanding how the completeness, reliability, consistency and uncertainty of historical well records influence well integrity assessments and risk classification. The research explores the implications of incomplete or uncertain well information for identifying potential leakage pathways, evaluating legacy well integrity and supporting risk-informed decision-making in geological CO₂ storage projects.

Through this research, I aim to contribute to the development of more transparent, consistent and evidence-based approaches to legacy well integrity risk classification, supporting the safe and sustainable repurposing of depleted oil and gas reservoirs for long-term CO₂ storage.

Current activities

My current research activities include reviewing relevant scientific literature, examining approaches to historical well data quality assessment, identifying key sources of uncertainty and exploring methods for incorporating data quality and uncertainty into legacy well integrity risk classification.

The overall aim of my research is to contribute to the development of a more systematic, transparent and evidence-based approach to assessing legacy well integrity risks, supporting informed decision-making and the safe, long-term geological storage of CO₂ in depleted oil and gas reservoirs.
