Jorge Assis

Background

Jorge Assis completed his CEng in Electricity and Computer Science with a concentration in Energy Systems from Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon University, Portugal. He obtained MSc degree in Oil and Gas Management from Robert Gordon University and joined Cranfield University to pursue Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence applied to Energy Systems. He worked for more than 20 years for the oil industry, performing different roles, including Maintenance Supervisor, Head of Facilities and Process Engineering Department, Production Superintendent, Offshore Installations Manager, and Crude Oil Trader.

Current activities

Jorge is carrying out his Ph.D. research within the School of Water, Energy and Environment at Cranfield University. His Ph.D. research focuses on the deployment and applications of Machine Learning in Energy Systems, particularly on the improvement of the operation algorithm of grid-connected PV battery systems.

Jorge is currently the Operations Manager of Sonangol's trading and marketing unit in London.
