Background

James has extensive expertise in strategy, organisation development, business development, and marketing. He has also experience with industry, government and academic institutions, nationally and internationally, including established strategic relationships with major aerospace companies. 

James joined Cranfield in August 2002, with over twenty-five years' experience in high technology industry, including 23 years at Rolls-Royce plc, working in aero (civil & military), marine and energy sectors, and holding technical/management/executive positions in a wide range of disciplines, ranging from advanced aero engine design to corporate development. He also has consulting experience in financial services, utilities, retail, logistics, and pharmaceuticals. 

James has published/presented/guest lectured on a wide range of topics nationally and internationally. He has facilitated executive education workshops and developed new consulting capability in the area of business innovation and business strategy. James has been an active member of the Royal Aeronautical Society for many years including committee member of the Derby branch (when at Rolls-Royce) and Cranfield branch and chairing the Air Transport Specialist Group at the main Society for the last 10 years. 

Current activities

James Angus is Commercial Director of the Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) Centre at Cranfield University. James played a lead role in the launch of the IVHM Centre (2008) in collaboration with Boeing (as launch partner) bringing in other major aerospace & defence companies. To-date the Centre has secured a total investment of over £15m, completed over 60 projects and broadened its activities into rail, marine, energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and health. More recently James has been directly involved in initiating and securing launch funding for the new Digital Aviation R&T Centre (DARTeC) at Cranfield.
