Ipek received her M.Sc. degree in Environmental Engineering from Kocaeli University, Turkey in 2019. The topic of the M.Sc thesis was the development of a hydraulic and pollutant transport model for the Ergene River, which is Turkey’s most polluted river. During her graduate studies, she worked as a researcher for the project "Development of a Geographical Information System Based Decision-Making Tool for Water Quality Management of Ergene Watershed Using Pollutant Fingerprints" which is conducted with the participation of seven universities for 29 months.

Current activities

Ipek started her PhD research at Cranfield University Water Science Institute and joined the “REGENERATIS” project. Her focus is metals recovery from landfills, metals life cycle assessment and decision support tools. She is particularly interested in how circular economy assists these.
