Background

Ioannis began his career in the Hellenic Air Force (HAF), Greece, where he led technical teams at CRC Parnis, Athens. In this role, he played a key part in the transformation of the station from a Main Radar Site into a Regional Command, Control and Communications Station. Following his promotion to Pilot Officer and transfer to Larissa Aerodrome, Ioannis was appointed Avionics Engineering Officer with 346 Squadron. Alongside his operational responsibilities, he completed an MSc in Avionics Engineering and Logistics Management. He subsequently commanded B Flight, 346 Squadron, with responsibility for organisational-level aircraft maintenance. Following the completion of his frontline service in 2007, he was awarded a second postgraduate sponsorship and undertook an MSc in Guided Weapon Systems at Cranfield University. On promotion to Flight Lieutenant, Ioannis was appointed Manager of the Weapons Systems Office at the HAF Electronics Depot in Glyfada, Attica. In this position, he was responsible for the development, validation and evaluation of HAF weapon systems. Following a three-year appointment, he was selected for a staff position at HAF General Staff, A1 Branch, Section 4, where he was responsible for electronic warfare doctrine, operations and capability development. He also served as Greece's National Representative on three NATO electronic warfare working groups covering Signals Intelligence and Electronic Warfare, Electromagnetic Spectrum Denial, and Airborne Platform Survivability. In 2010, Ioannis was awarded the Military Merit Medal, 3rd Class, was elected a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society and became a Chartered Engineer. In 2011, he was appointed to the Order of the Phoenix, receiving the Golden Cross. In 2013, Ioannis transitioned to academia, joining Cranfield University as a Lecturer in Radar and Electronic Warfare, where he continued to develop his expertise in advanced radar, electronic warfare and defence systems.
