Background
Gary has extensive experience and knowledge in the areas of Materials Science, Military Metallurgy and the Effects of Radiation and uses of radiation sources. He has been lecturing and teaching practical sessions in these specialist areas for well over 20 years for both civilian and military audiences.
Following his undergraduate study for a BSc (Hons) with the Open University, he achieved a Post-Graduate Certificate in Learning, Teaching and Assessment in Higher Education, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His most recent education was an MSc by Research looking into the inherent variability of polymer 3D-printing filaments.
For over 10 years he was the Business Manager and operator of a unique large 510TBq Gamma Irradiator and gained extensive hands-on experience and knowledge of the radiation effects on both materials and systems, and the handling of high activity radiation sources in general.
