Background

Dr Shang Lyu is a Research Fellow in the Aircraft Design Group at Cranfield University, specialising in high-fidelity aerodynamic analysis, surrogate modelling, and multidisciplinary optimisation for novel aircraft conceptual design. His research contributes to the development of next-generation design methodologies within the GENUS framework, with applications in both subsonic and supersonic aircraft.

Current activities

Dr Shang Lyu is currently working on the Airbus-led ONEHeart project, funded by the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) and Innovate UK. His contributions focus on the conceptual and preliminary design of future civil aircraft. In parallel, he supports the Aerospace Vehicle Design MSc programme, providing technical guidance and supervision for the Group Design Project (GDP), where students undertake industry-relevant aircraft design challenges.
