Background
Dr Shang Lyu is a Research Fellow in the Aircraft Design Group at Cranfield University, specialising in high-fidelity aerodynamic analysis, surrogate modelling, aircraft systems design, and multidisciplinary optimisation for novel aircraft conceptual design. His research focuses on the development of advanced aircraft design tools and methodologies that integrate aerodynamic modelling with airframe system architectures to support analysis and evaluation in early-stage aircraft design.
Research opportunities
Aircraft Conceptual Design, Aerodynamic Analysis, Surrogate Model, Multidisciplinary Design and Optimization
Current activities
Dr Shang Lyu is currently working on the LANDOne project, funded by the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) and conducted in collaboration with Airbus. His work focuses on the conceptual and preliminary design of future civil aircraft, with particular attention to aircraft system architectures and their integration within the overall aircraft design process. In parallel, he supports the Aerospace Vehicle Design MSc programme, providing technical guidance and supervision for the Group Design Project (GDP), where students undertake industry-relevant aircraft design challenges.
