Background
Dr Parveen Fatemeh Rupani is a dedicated environmental scientist with a PhD in Environmental Technology from Universiti Sains Malaysia. Her doctoral research focused on the vermicomposting of palm oil mill wastes and its impact on earthworm biomass and plant growth, laying the foundation for her expertise in sustainable waste management and soil health.
Driven by a passion for advancing waste valorisation strategies, Dr Rupani has worked across multiple international research environments, including China and Belgium, where she explored innovative approaches to organic waste biodegradation and nutrient recovery.
In 2023, she joined Cranfield University as a postdoctoral researcher, where her current work focuses on evaluating the efficacy of novel organo-mineral fertilisers derived from carbon-capture-based technology. Her research aims to enhance soil carbon sequestration, improve fertiliser efficiency, and support sustainable agricultural practices.
With a strong background in waste-to-resource technologies, soil fertility enhancement, and bioremediation, Dr Rupani continues to contribute to cutting-edge solutions for global environmental challenges.
Research opportunities
Dr. Rupani's research is deeply aligned with the United Nations’ Environmental Sustainability Goals, particularly Goal 2: Zero Hunger, Goal 7: Clean Energy, and Goal 15: Life on Land. She has extensive experience in vermicomposting technology, transforming waste into high-quality fertilisers. Her work focuses on assessing organic fertilisers' nutrient profile and agronomic viability, ensuring they meet crop demands while minimising greenhouse gas emissions.
Additionally, she is keen to explore the role of earthworms in contaminant removal, investigating how their gut microbiome aids in breaking down complex pollutants. Her research extends to lignocellulosic biomass utilisation, optimising its potential for soil enrichment and energy recovery. She is particularly interested in anaerobic digestion and dark fermentation, exploring their potential to produce sustainable bioenergy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
With a strong background in waste-to-resource technologies, bioremediation, and soil fertility enhancement, Dr. Rupani continues to contribute to cutting-edge solutions for sustainable agriculture, clean energy transitions, and environmental conservation.
