Background

Mehdi Hafezi joined Cranfield University as a research fellow in systems thinking. Mehdi received his Master of Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Adelaide, Australia, in 2013, and his PhD in systems modelling from Griffith University, Australia, in 2020. He conducted his doctoral research as a member of the risk assessment and systems modelling team within a multidisciplinary project titled EcoAdapt, which aimed to identify appropriate adaptation interventions through an integrated systems modelling approach.

Research opportunities

His research interests focus on the application of systems thinking in environmental, public health, and socio-economic systems, including hybrid systems modelling, System Dynamics (SD), Probabilistic Modelling, and Soft Systems Methodology (SSM), as well as Project Management and Decision Support Systems (DSS).

Clients

Mehdi is currently involved in a multidisciplinary project so-called' Grounds Well', which aims to drive community innovation by applying systems science to maximise the contribution of Urban Green and Blue Space to support residents and improve social well-being through the prevention of and reduction of inequalities in, non-communicable diseases (NCD) in urban settings in the UK. This is a 4-year programme of work in three cities - Belfast, Edinburgh and Liverpool - focusing on developing, supporting and evaluating community urban green and blue spaces to promote health and well-being for all. Groundswell takes a systems approach that means understanding the multiple and interconnecting components of policy-making, practice, perception and people, which together affect the presence, location, character and use of UGBS.
