Background

Matteo Migliorini is a Senior Research Fellow in Experimental Propulsion Aerodynamics within the Centre for Propulsion and Thermal Power Engineering. After his MSc in Mechanical Engineering obtained at the Polytechnic University of Turin (Italy), he joined Cranfield University (UK) in 2017 to pursue his PhD research project sponsored by the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre for Aero Systems Design, Integration and Performance. Since the completion of his PhD on "Unsteady Inlet Flow Distortion for Complex Intakes" in 2021, he is working as a Senior Research Fellow in experimental propulsion aerodynamics in the Gas Turbine Engineering group led by Prof. D. MacManus and Dr. P. Zachos. He focuses on optical measurement techniques, unsteady data processing methods, and the design and development of experimental test facilities for subsonic and supersonic aero-engine intakes

Current activities

Experimental investigation on the aerodynamics of complex aero-engine intakes at the UTC for Aero Systems Design, Integration and Performance.

Use of Stereo Particle Image Velocimetry (S-PIV) to measure non-intrusively the S-duct intake flow distortion

Testing of S-duct intakes with inlet total pressure and swirl distortion

Development of tools and methods for unsteady flow distortion analysis.

Spectral analysis, Proper Orthogonal Decomposition and methods to track unsteady swirl distortion features.
