Background

Dr Johnson Odukoya obtained his bachelor's degree [First Class (Hons.)] from the Department of Chemistry, The Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria, where he was offered automatic employment by the institution. With an intense desire for academic excellence, he completed his master’s degree with a distinction and was a recipient of the Federal Scholarship Board, Master's Scholarship, Nigeria. He was later awarded the Nigerian Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) overseas scholarship for his doctoral study at Cranfield University, United Kingdom (UK).

To fulfil the bond requirement of his overseas doctoral programme, Dr Odukoya returned to his home institution to continue his lecturing job. In 2019, he was offered the Global Excellence Stature Fellowship 4.0 at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, for his postdoctoral study. He then returned to the UK in 2022 as the Lecturer in Chemical Sciences at Bader College (the UK campus of Queen’s University, Canada) before joining Cranfield University as a Research Fellow.

Dr Odukoya seeks to use his research experience in solving societal and industrial problems. He’s currently working on using a modern approach, involving state-of-the-art equipment, and his soil chemistry knowledge in addressing soil erosion challenges to boost agricultural production as well as ensure food security. He has successfully supervised >15 student projects to completion and authored a number of peer-reviewed journal papers. He’s open to collaborations that would help in strengthening the University’s efforts in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
