Background

Dr Jinoop Arackal Narayanan is presently a research fellow in additive manufacturing (process and materials) at Welding and Additive Manufacturing Centre, Cranfield University, UK. Previously, he worked as an industrial postdoctoral researcher at the Multi-scale Additive Manufacturing Lab, the University of Waterloo, Canada from 2021-23. He also worked as a DAE Senior Research Fellow at Laser Additive Manufacturing Laboratory at Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore, India. He completed his PhD in the area of laser additive manufacturing at Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai, India. He has more than seven years of experience in the area of additive manufacturing.

His research interests are metal additive manufacturing, process window development in additive manufacturing, processing of advanced materials, post-processing of metal additive manufactured components and in-situ and ex-situ material characterizations.

He has more than 80 publications in the area of additive manufacturing, which include journal papers in peer-reviewed international journals, book chapters, and international and national conference papers. He is the author of the first compressive textbook on Additive Manufacturing in India published by McGraw-Hill Higher Education for UG and PG Scholars.

He is conferred with the “Young Scientist award in Mechanical Engineering” by the Madhya Pradesh Government in the year 2019. Subsequently, he worked as Young Scientist Fellow at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Trivandrum in the area of metal additive manufacturing.  He is a recipient of the best Ph. D Thesis award from the Indian Laser Association. His works are also awarded best paper and poster awards during national conferences and technical events. He received fellowships from the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India. He is also involved in several collaborative works in the area of laser additive manufacturing with NITs, IITs and National Labs, like – VSSC Trivandrum and IGCAR Kalpakkam.

He is also a member of the Indian Laser Association.
