Chris obtained his BEng in Computer Systems Engineering from Sussex University in 1990. He then spent 13 years working for RARDE/DRA/DERA/Qinetiq working on:

  • Research in ignition and growth of reaction in energetic materials
  • Development of computer models and experiments for model validation
  • large-scale trials planning
  • project management.

Chris joined Cranfield University in 2004 and his role has included: 

  • Initiation sensitiveness and sensitivity
  • EMTAP (Energetic Materials Testing and Assessment Policy) testing
  • MSc project supervision

Current activities

Chris is Head of the Test and Evaluation Group in Cranfield University's Centre for Defence Chemistry. His interests include:
  • Measurement methods for sensitivity and detonation performance
  • Development of test methods for stockpile assurance
  • Development of qualification methods for new energetic materials.
