Background

  • PhD, Radar remote sensing of soil moisture, Cranfield University  (2011-2014)
  • MSc Astronautics and Space Engineering, Cranfield University  (2010-2011)

Current activities

Dr Boris Snapir is conducting research involving the analysis of Remote Sensing data for a better management of natural resources. He has experience with both multispectral instruments and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) for applications such as the estimation of soil moisture and crop yield, the measurement of snow and glacier dynamics, and the detection of maritime structures (vessels, oil platforms, wind farms).

Currently, he is investigating approaches to estimate soil moisture using SAR. He is also involved in the developments of tools for maritime monitoring (illicit maritime activities) using satellite Remote Sensing.

More generally, Dr Boris Snapir is interested in how the explosion in data from Earth Observation satellites, combined with Big Data Analytics, can help appraise global challenges (deforestation, drought, food security and sustainability) and reveal new applications of Remote Sensing.
