Background
Dr Aman Thakur is a microbiologist specializing in fungal biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, and applied microbiology. With a Ph.D. in Microbiology from CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, India, his research has focused on fungal fermentation, biofortification, and functional food development. He has expertise in solid-state and submerged fermentation, and waste valorization, with applications spanning functional foods, nutraceuticals, and environmental remediation. His work has included developing microbial consortium for organic waste management in cold regions, valorizing wood waste substrates, and creating biochar-based formulations for waste degradation. His research integrates microbial ecology, pollutant biotransformation, and circular bioeconomy strategies, making him a strong fit for initiatives aimed at leveraging fungal systems to support net-zero and sustainability goals.
Research opportunities
Dr. Aman’s research interests lie in sustainable mycoremediation, with a focus on fungal enzyme–mediated degradation of emerging pollutants and the integration of innovative strategies for developing cleaner and more sustainable environmental technologies.
Current activities
He is currently working as a Research Fellow in Sustainable Mycoremediation at the Magan Centre of Applied Mycology (MCAM), where he focuses on the degradation of emerging pollutants using fungal-based strategies.
