Climate adaptation
We have created a climate change adaptation strategy (in line with our environmental targets) which sets out recommendations for climate change adaptation planning and actions for Cranfield University until 2030. The strategy recommends that climate change adaptation is incorporated into University forward planning. You can read this using the link below:
The Centre is part of three major Cranfield University themes: Transport Systems, Aerospace and Manufacturing and Materials.
DARTeC consists of a central building with a double-storey atrium and 11 advanced digital aviation research laboratories. Adjacent to the main building is a unique sensored ‘hangar laboratory’, connected to Cranfield’s 737-400 aircraft through an airport-style air bridge. The hangar canopy and main building roofs mirror each other to form matching ‘stealth fighter’ profiles when viewed from above.
In 2008, our Stringfellow Hall student accommodation was shortlisted for the Royal Institute of British Architects East of England Awards for its innovative and environmentally-friendly design, which incorporated solar thermal panels.
Sustainable buildings and infrastructure
Since 2010, there have been extensive investments improving the environmental efficiency of University infrastructure on the Cranfield campus. Further details are outlined on our Carbon and Water web pages.
