The International Federation of Airworthiness (IFA) and Cranfield have launched the IFA/Cranfield John Saull Scholarship, dedicated to providing three individuals with fantastic awards, including some unmissable "money-can’t buy’"experiences.
Funded by The International Federation of Airworthiness (IFA) since 1979,Cranfield continues to develop and co-ordinate different scholarship programme opportunities.
Made possible with the support of his family, we are delighted to launch the 2024 IFA/Cranfield John Saull Scholarship in recognition of John’s dedication and work as Executive Director of IFA and his long-time role as Chair of the Cranfield College of Aeronautics Alumni Association (CCAAA).
This year, with the added support of Mick Adams, former CEO, STS Aviation Group Services, Europe, we will be offering three awards to the top three entrants of the scholarship.
The winners will be announced at the second John Saull Memorial Event, which will take place on Thursday 28 November 2024 in the DARTeC Passenger Experience Lab, Cranfield University, Bedford, UK.
This special event brings together the International Federation of Airworthiness (IFA), the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and Cranfield University, to commemorate John Saull’s contribution to aviation and award the IFA Scholarship awards. This year we will be giving awards to three lucky recipients.
John’s family will be in attendance, alongside an industry expert panel including representatives from British Airways (BA), Jet2, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Air-Tanker Services, and many more. There will be tours of our fantastic facilities,various opportunities for networking, and we will be inviting apprentices and trainees to participate.
Mick Adams, former STS Aviation CEO is supporting IFA and Cranfield University in this event and says, “This conference presents a quite unique opportunity and is one not to be missed!”

The main award
- Registration on one of Cranfield University’s award-winning short courses from the list below: These courses can be taken online or face-to-face and include certain expenses (*see more info).
Two runners up
- Six mentoring sessions with Mick Adams, former CEO, STS Aviation Services Group, Europe.
- One week’s work experience at STS Newquay MRO facility. This is a hands-on experience, with supervision, exposure to front line and support functions for heavy maintenance plus a 1:2:1 with Ian Bartholomew, EVP & MD STS Europe, to discuss the submitted paper and the challenges to career aspirations the successful candidate lists in the competition submission

The scholarship scheme is open to anyone currently working or studying within aviation maintenance, operations, engineering and safety.
